Internationals – Andros' goal caps busy Tuesday

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

The winger latched onto the ball 20 yards out after it was nudged into his path by fellow substitute Ryan Mason and promptly let fly – arrowing a shot past Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to put Roy Hodgson’s side back on level terms in the international friendly in Turin.

The 79th-minute strike, which arrived nine minutes after Andros was introduced in place of Fabian Delph, marked the 23-year-old’s third goal for the senior England side and cancelled out Graziano Pelle’s first half opener for the hosts.

Ryan hadn’t been on the pitch long himself either, having stepped off the bench for his senior Three Lions bow in the 74th minute – in doing so becoming the 72nd Spurs player to represent England at the top level.

Harry Kane – a goalscoring debutant in Friday’s win over Lithuania – completed the full 90 minutes on his second appearance for his nation, with Kyle Walker’s introduction as a half-time substitute meaning England finished the game with four of our players on the pitch.

Elsewhere on Tuesday evening, Jan Vertonghen completed 90 minutes for Belgium as they went top of Group B in Euro 2016 qualifying with a 1-0 victory in Israel, despite the second half sending-off of Vincent Kompany. Nacer Chadli was a 63rd-minute substitute, while Mousa Dembele remained unused on the bench.

DeAndre Yedlin, meanwhile, was a 76th-minute substitute for the USA in their 1-1 friendly draw with Switzerland in Zurich.

Earlier in the day, midfielder Harry Winks completed the full match for England Under-19s as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in their UEFA Under-19 Championship Elite Round qualifier, while defensive midfielder Filip Lesniak played 69 minutes for Slovakia Under-19s in their 2-2 draw with Republic of Ireland in the same competition.

Hart wins 50th England cap in Italy draw

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

50 not out… Joe Hart reached a notable milestone in his international career on Tuesday night.

City and England’s no.1 lined up for his nation for the 50th time in Turin in what was a repeat of the Three Lions’ opening game of the 2014 World Cup.

At just 27, Joe became the youngest goalkeeper to reach a half century and joined an elite club of goalkeepers including Gordon Banks, Ray Clemence, Peter Shilton, David Seaman and David James to hit the landmark.

Graziano Pelle’s first-half header looked like it would prove to be the difference between the sides on the night but Andros Townsend levelled with ten minutes remaining.

Joe was first called into action after ten minutes when he produced a fine save, tipping over Marco Parolo’s dipping goalbound strike.

England were struggling to assert themselves in the game and so it was no surprise when Southampton striker Pelle gave Hart no chance with his header from Giorgio Chiellini’s pinpoint cross after 28 minutes.

“It was a disappointing first-half for the Three Lions after a run of seven-successive victories and they were indebted to their goalkeeper once again five minutes into the second period.”

…England v Italy…

Citadin Eder must have thought he’d doubled the Azzurri advantage with his sidefooted close range effort but Hart blocked the shot with the underside of his body to keep England in touch.

Roy Hodgson’s side seemed to improve as the night went on and they got their reward with just over ten minutes remaining as Townsend smashed a brilliant effort past Gianluigi Buffon.

1-1 was how it stayed, meaning England are still unbeaten since the World Cup.

At the same time, Vincent Kompany was the only City man playing for Euro 2016 qualifying points on Tuesday night as Belgium faced a tricky assignment away in Jerusalem.

The City skipper set up Marouane Fellaini’s ninth-minute goal to put the away side in the box seat, peeling away to the back post and forcing the goalkeeper to spill the ball out to his teammate for a tap-in.

However, Vincent’s night would take a turn for the worse with just over 20 minutes remaining as he was dismissed for a second bookable offence by referee Mark Clattenburg.

That sending off paved the way for Jason Denayer’s senior international debut as the on loan youngster was sent on to try and preserve the narrow lead in place of Christian Benteke.

Israel rarely threatened, allowing Belgium to post a result which puts them top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group B on goal difference from Wales in second.

Meanwhile, Edin Dzeko was unable to improve on his astonishing strike rate of 40 goals in 71 international games in Vienna as Bosnia-Herzegovina drew 1-1 with Austria.

Fresh from scoring a hat-trick in his nation’s 3-0 win over Cyprus at the weekend, Edin retained his place in the XI which started the friendly.

The Dragons were a goal down after 35 minutes when Marc Janko put the hosts ahead but they struck back to level three minutes after the restart courtesy of Izet Hajrovic.

Dzeko played all 90 minutes but neither side could find the winning goal.

There was no room for David Silva in a much-changed Spain team which took on the Netherlands in another World Cup 2014 rematch in Amsterdam.

Only two players survived in the line-up from La Roja’s 1-0 win over Ukraine at the weekend and the experimental side found themselves 2-0 down inside 16 minutes.

Klaassen and di Vrij scored the first-half goals which gave the reigning European champions a mountain to climb in the second period when Silva was introduced in place of Isco.

David was at the heart of some of Spain’s best play after the break but even Merlin could not prevent a 2-0 defeat.

Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta’s Argentina take on Ecuador in the early hours of Wednesday morning (UK time).

How Everton FC could line up five years from now in the year 2020 – Liverpool Echo

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

A lot can happen in football over the course of five years. In March 2010, Everton were sharing a point with Wolves at Molineux with Louis Saha up front, Jack Rodwell in midfield and David Moyes in the dugout.

It would have been impossible to predict who would run out for the Blues in 2015. Romelu Lukaku, for example, was still at Anderlecht at 2010, while James McCarthy was a fresh-faced 19-year-old starting out at Wigan under Roberto Martinez. Whatever happened to him?

Despite that, we want your predictions for what Everton’s team will look like in five years.

You can still select some of the current crop, while there are also plenty of youth team players there, too.

You can even pick a few new signings, if you want to.
