BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson explains his confident prediction for Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur – HITC

Saturday, March 12th, 2016

Mark Lawrenson believes Tottenham will coast to a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur will get back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Spurs head into the game having lost 3-0 to Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League on Thursday night, where manager Mauricio Pochettino fielded a weakened side.

Pochettino must now pick up a win against Aston Villa to continue his push for the Premier League title, having gained just one point from games against West Ham and Arsenal.

Now five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City, Spurs must win on Sunday and hope that Leicester slip up against Newcastle on Monday night.

Ultimately, Spurs must win after resting so many top players against Dortmund, but they would have been looking to pick three points anyway, given that they take on the Premier League’s bottom club Aston Villa.

Remi Garde’s men have won just three Premier League games this season, and sit nine points adrift of safety, as they prepare for relegation to the Championship.

Unsurprisingly, Tottenham are clear favourites to win the game, and pundit Mark Lawrenson told BBC Sport that he expects Spurs to win the game 2-0, with Villa going down ‘not even with a whimper’ according to the former Liverpool defender.

“As soon as Aston Villa conceded their first goal against Manchester City last weekend, they were finished,” said Lawrenson. “I was at Eithad Stadium for that game and the worst thing about it for me was that Villa only started to play a bit when they were 4-0 down. I feel a bit sorry for Villa boss Remi Garde, because this is not his team – he was not able or allowed to buy a player in January. They are going down, and it is not even with a whimper.”

“Tottenham were given a bit of a reminder of how tough the Premier League can be by 10-man Arsenal last time out, but this is the perfect fixture for them to get back to winning ways,” he added.
