Jose Angel Pozo joins Almeria

Monday, August 31st, 2015

Jose Angel Pozo has joined Unión Deportiva Almería on a permanent deal.

Pozo joined City from Real Madrid in 2012 aged 15 and his form at EDS level won him a place in the first-team in September 2014 as the Blues took on Sheffield Wednesday.

The Malaga-born teenager made an instant impact, scoring an 88th-minute goal in a 7-0 victory and the following December, Pozo made his full Premier League debut in the 1-0 win at Leicester City after Edin Dzeko picked up an injury in the pre-match warm-up.

In total, Pozo played four senior games for the Blues and he will now continue his career with Segunda Division side Almeria.

Everybody as Manchester City wishes Jose the very best in his future career.

Ex-Rangers boss Green faces charges

Charles Green likely to face charges over his time as Rangers chief executive

  • 31 August 2015
  • From the section Glasgow & West Scotland

Former Rangers chief executive Charles Green is likely to face charges relating to his time at the club, BBC Scotland has learned.

He is expected to be spoken to by Police Scotland on Tuesday morning.

Mr Green took control at Rangers after buying the club’s assets following administration and liquidation in 2012.

He stepped down following allegations that he was working in conjunction with the club’s former owner Craig Whyte.

Mr Whyte has already been charged with being involved in a fraudulent scheme to take control of the club in 2011.

He and three others were released on bail last year.

It is unclear what charges Mr Green is facing, but he has already spoken to the police on three separate occasions.

Manchester United agree deal to sell David De Gea to Real Madrid

Monday, August 31st, 2015

Manchester United have reached an agreement for the sale of goalkeeper David de Gea to Real Madrid, Press Association Sport understands.

The deal is yet to be completed but is believed to be worth around £29million with Costa Rica keeper Keylor Navas moving in the opposite direction.

A confirmed transfer would end a long summer of speculation over the future of De Gea, who has been consistently linked with a switch to the Bernabeu.

Everton U21s 4-1 Spurs – match gallery

Monday, August 31st, 2015

David Henen’s spot-kick in the 14th minute gave the Toffees the lead, before Sam Byrne made it 2-0 in first half stoppage time.

Two further goals, from Conor McAleny and Byrne, in the first four minutes of the second period put Everton out of sight, although Christian Maghoma’s header on 52 minutes gave us hope.

Substitute Charlie Owens hit the post late on, but it proved to be a disappointing afternoon for our youngsters at Goodison Park.

Everton U21s: Robles, Pennington, Connolly, Ledson (Walsh 76), Browning, Holgate, Williams (C), Grant (Yates 86), Byrne, McAleny, Henen (Evans 67). Substitutes (not used): Hewelt (GK), Charsley, Graham, Donohue.

Spurs U21s: Glover, Walker-Peters, Lesniak (C), Maghoma, Georgiou, Amos (Stylianides 55), Goddard (Owens 67), Winks (Walkes 55), Sonupe, Onomah, Harrison. Substitute (not used): Voss (GK).

Everton U21s 4-1 Spurs – report from Goodison Park

Monday, August 31st, 2015

Sam Byrne (2) and Conor McAleny did the damage with Byrne’s deflected strike to double Everton’s lead in first half injury time a particular blow after the teams were evenly-matched in the first half.

But the game was essentially over five minutes into the second half as Byrne and McAleny put the Toffees 4-0 up.

To their credit, the lads found a response in the Merseyside rain but it was a long journey back to Hotspur Way on a Bank Holiday Monday.

First-team squad regulars Harry Winks and Josh Onomah provided the experience as we lined-up for our first match in the competition.

Both teams created chances in an entertaining first half. Luke Amos had our first sight at goal on four minutes, his shot deflected wide before Tom Glover did well to block from Byrne.

Everton were handed the chance to take the lead on 14 minutes when a somewhat innocuous challenge from Amos nevertheless tripped Callum Connolly right on the corner of the penalty area. Glover got a firm hand on David Henen’s spot-kick but couldn’t keep it out.

McAleny and Joseph Williams forced Glover into routine saves before Shayon Harrison’s persistence opened it up for Emmanuel Sonupe to test Joel Robles for the first time on the half-hour.

Our best chance of the first period came via a wonderful cross from Anthony Georgiou from the left on 37 minutes. Sonupe did well to get across his man but saw his header flash just wide with Robles motionless on his line.

Everton made it 2-0 in the second minute of added time as Byrne was found at the far post from a corner, his first shot was parried straight back to him by Glover and his second attempt brushed off Christian Maghoma and nestled in the far corner.

If that was a blow just before the break, then we were left reeling by a quick one-two minutes into the second half.

Henen got to the right byline before finding McAleny with time and space to fire home for 3-0 on 47 minutes and just two minutes later, Ryan Ledson played in Byrne and he fired past Glover from the left angle for 4-0.

We responded quickly though as Maghoma powered home a header from Winks’ corner on 52 minutes and you felt there was still belief in the players that they could drag themselves back into the game.

Our best spell followed and Robles had to be at his best to touch away Kyle Walker-Peters’ effort from the right angle on 56 minutes before beating away Sonupe’s fierce drive from a similar position on the hour.

That was the closest either team came to adding to the scoreline until the final seconds when substitute Charlie Owens fired across Robles, only to see his effort cannon back off the post.

We next take on FC Schalke at Stevenage on Tuesday, November 3 (7pm) before concluding our group against FC Porto, also at the Lamex Stadium, on Wednesday, December 23 (also 7pm).

We play each team in the group once and, upon completion of the group stage, the winners and runners-up from each pool will progress to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. These are all to be played as single-leg ties.

Everton U21s: Robles, Pennington, Connolly, Ledson (Walsh 76), Browning, Holgate, Williams (C), Grant (Yates 86), Byrne, McAleny, Henen (Evans 67). Substitutes (not used): Hewelt (GK), Charsley, Graham, Donohue.

Spurs U21s: Glover, Walker-Peters, Lesniak (C), Maghoma, Georgiou, Amos (Stylianides 55), Goddard (Owens 67), Winks (Walkes 55), Sonupe, Onomah, Harrison. Substitute (not used): Voss (GK).

Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj joins Borussia Dortmund on loan

Monday, August 31st, 2015

Manchester United’s winger Adnan Januzaj has joined Borussia Dortmund on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old Belgium international has struggled to fit into the team under manager Louis van Gaal, though he did score the winner against Aston Villa earlier this season, and will move to the Bundesliga club.

Januzaj tweeted a picture of himself holding a Dortmund shirt and said: “Pleased to sign for Dortmund ?? ! Looking forward to new season”.

Dortmund announced that Januzaj will wear the number nine shirt for the club.

Januzaj told the club’s website: “Borussia Dortmund are a big club and the fans are meant to be really incredible here. I would like to achieve great things with this team.”

Dortmund’s director of sport Michael Zorc added: “Adnan is a highly talented and technically adept player who rounds off our attack.”

Two weeks ago, Van Gaal reacted angrily to suggestions that he did not give Januzaj enough of a chance to make an impact last season – but added that the winger needed to find consistency.

Van Gaal said then: “Adnan had eight starts last season and 14 substitutions so he didn’t have any chances? This is not true, in my opinion.

“The other players have no right? (to a place in the team) Only Adnan has a right? He has to compete with 23 or 24 other players.

“He is 20 years old. The characteristics of a young player is he is not consistent. He has to show that. Maybe he can show it this season. It is possible.”
